To Whom It May Concern:

Have you ever heard of a fifth grade class called the Techno Tigers? We are famous, and we can make you famous, too. Just read on to find out how a group of fifth graders and a disposal company can team up to save the environment. Waste Management should help us help the world by picking up recyclables such as paper and plastic at East Elementary for no cost.

Do you know that
Americans use more than 67 million tons of paper per year? Americans use 580 pounds of paper per person per year. There are 340 students at East Elementary. That is 197,200 pounds of paper wasted because we don't recycle. Do you know that one ton of recycled paper saves 3700 lbs of lumber and 24000 gallons of water? One tree can filter up to 60 lbs of pollutants from the air each year. Making new things from recycled materials costs less money and less energy. Because less energy is used, factories don't release as much pollution either. Recycling also helps prevent the need for more landfills.

Do you know that
Americans throw away enough plastic bottles to circle the earth four times? Students at East use a lot of water bottles and throw them all away. We could probably circle the school four times with the number of plastic bottles we throw away. Five recycled plastic bottles make enough fiberfill to stuff a sky jacket. Stuffed animals can be made from recycled plastic bottles, too. Most importantly, recycling one ton of plastic saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space.

You are probably wondering at this point, why you should pick up our recycled paper and plastic for free. Did we mention that we are Mrs. Abernethy’s Techno Tigers? We have a website that gets worldwide views daily. You can check it out for yourself at: http://jabernethy.com. If you help us, we can recognize you by mentioning your good deed on our website. We will be making videos to promote our cause and we will star Waste Management. Others will see that you care about the environment and they will want you to pick up their trash.

Don’t you agree that it would be good for both your company and our school if we team up in this worthy cause? Please consider picking up recyclable paper and plastic at East Elementary. Don’t forget we are relying on you.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Abernethy’s Techno Tigers
